New Zealand’s Connan Mockasin has covered “Running Out of Time,” a song by Rexy and taken from their 1981 album of the same name. Samantha Urbani (the former frontwoman of Friends) has a new record label, URU, and on March 18 they are reissuing Running Out of Time, a long out of print album by the British duo (their only album). In honor of the reissue Mockasin was commissioned to cover “Running Out of Time.” Below is both the original and the cover, via i-D (who premiered the cover).
I-D spoke to Urbani, who had this to say about the cover: “I’ve been a long time fan of Connan—his records, live shows, and as a person in general. When I heard through the grapevine that he was also a huge Rexy fan, it made perfect sense. What I love about his music has lots of ties to what I love about Rexy.”
The members of Rexy also gave a quote to I-D about the cover: “‘Running Out of Time’ is about surveillance and paranoia, although written in a time long before computer surveillance. We are delighted that Connan covered this track; we’re big fans of his and thrilled with the results.”
Connan Mockasin’s most recent album, Caramel, was released by Mexican Summer in 2013.
