Various established and rising indie artists have taken it upon themselves to deliver a number of unexpected covers this week.
Taking part in a new installment of the Late Night Tales compilation, Django Django have provided an exclusive cover The Monkees’ “Porpoise Song.” The full compilation will drop on May 13, with the cover released as a special 7’’ for Record Store Day.
Following the death of house pioneer Frankie Knuckles, Chad Valley has offered up a tribute covering the DJ’s signature tune, “Your Love.” “I was so moved by the great man’s passing two weeks ago that made this little homage to him,” says Valley’s Hugo Manuel.
Also contributing to a Record Store Day exclusive are Cloud Control. Contributing to a limited edition vinyl album celebrating Infectious Music’s fifth birthday, the Aussie four-piece have provided a cover of Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You.”
Finally Bleeding Rainbow have recorded a cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Glynis,” which will also appear on a Record Store Day compilation by Kanine Records called Non Violent Femmes, celebrating female-fronted rock groups.
