Jimmy Eat World have shared a new song as part of the “30 Days, 30 Songs” (now expanded to 40 songs) anti-Donald Trump campaign put together by author/publisher Dave Eggers and Death Cab for Cutie manager Jordan Kurland. The song is entitled “My Enemy” and you listen to it below. The emo heroes just released their latest album, Integrity Blues, a couple of weeks back. Sub Pop artist Kyle Craft has also released an anti-Trump song today for “30 Days, 30 Songs.” It’s entitled “Before the Wall” and has a Bob Dylan protest vibe and can be streamed below too.

Jimmy Eat World issued a statement on their song:

“There are dangerous and very real consequences for using fear of ‘The Other’ to motivate a potential electorate. While that’s nothing new in politics, what is newly alarming in context of the current presidential campaign, is how seemingly effective that strategy has been for a certain candidate. That candidate used the low-hanging fruit of fearmongering to gain his initial momentum and continues to employ variations of it to sustain his place. The only way to steel yourself against that kind of manipulation is to do the real self-work in discovering and letting go of your own fears. While that pursuit is difficult because it means fighting against your own ego, it remains worth the effort-not just for what it can do for us as individuals but even more for what it can do for our collective society. Are you willing to accept that maybe, just possibly, what you feel as a threat, isn’t?”

Kyle Craft had this to say about his song:

“This song was not written for any politician or agenda. It was written for people and the country I live in. I’m not some unduly political loudmouth and I’m certainly not saying you have to swallow this pill, but for a moment, just think about that wall and what it means to you… Then think about what it means to the people on the other side. The world is not out to get you and, for the most part, people are very kind. As for me, I refuse to be afraid and I will continue to believe that love, understanding, and compassion have the ability to trump fear and evil, which often times go hand in hand, any day. Smile at people you don’t have to, love each other. I’ll do the same. P.S. I know it sounds like Bob Dylan, get over it.”

The “30 Days, 30 Songs” project will feature at least one song a day until election day. It was launched with Death Cab for Cutie’s anti-Trump song “Million Dollar Loan,” and includes Jim James’ video for “Same Old Lie,” Franz Ferdinand’s “Demagogue,” Thao’s “Before You Vote,” EL VY’s “Are These My Jets,” two songs by Moby (“Trump Is on Your Side” and “Little Failure”), Jesu/Sun Kil Moon’s “The Greatest Conversation Ever in the History of the Universe,” clipping.‘s “Fat Fingers,” Mirah’s “No Guns No Guns,” The Long Winters’ “Make America Great Again,” and a video of Andrew Bird and Jim James performing an updated version of “Sic of Elephants.”
