Iconic horror film director John Carpenter is releasing Lost Themes II on April 15 via Sacred Bones, a sequel to his 2015-released Lost Themes album. Carpenter has long composed music for his films (which include such classics as Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York, and They Live), but Lost Themes was his first album of original music not recorded for a particular movie and the sequel continues that. Carpenter has already shared the first single from Lost Themes II, “Distant Dream,” and now here’s another track from the record, “Angel’s Asylum.” Listen below.
The track’s title references Asylum, the comic book series he created with his wife and film producer Sandy King. John Carpenter commented on the song in a press release: “‘Angel’s Asylum’ has a driving rock sound and is more reminiscent of my later work. We initially started writing it for the comic book and we liked it so much we decided to put it on the album.”
John Carpenter is also going out on tour. The dates are Carpenter’s first ever live shows and he will be joined by his son Cody Carpenter, godson Daniel Davies, and a full backing band. Not only will he be performing songs from both Lost Dreams albums, but also some of his classic film score themes. The song and dates are below.
