Listen: Lana Del Rey - “Is This Happiness”
New Album Ultraviolence Out June 17
Jun 13, 2014 Lana Del Rey
Due to release her new album Ultraviolence next week, Lana De Rey has already shared a number of tracks featured on the LP, including its title track, “West Coast,” “Shades of Cool,” and “Brooklyn Baby.” Today Del Rey has offered up yet another cut titled “Is This Happiness,” a bonus track exclusive to iTunes. Oddly enough Del Rey recently provided her some thoughts on her own happiness in a telling interview with The Guardian, admitting, “I wish I was dead already.” When the reporter, Tim Jonze, tells that she doesn’t mean to say such a thing, Del Rey continues, “I do! I don’t want to have to keep doing this. But I am.” Jonze, pressing further, asks, “Do what? Make music?”, to which she responds, “Everything. That’s just how I feel. If it wasn’t that way, then I wouldn’t say it. I would be scared if I knew [death] was coming, but …”
In yet another interview, this time with The New York Times, Del Rey maintains this sad outlook, saying, “I love the idea that it’ll all be over,. It’s just a relief, really. I’m scared to die, but I want to die.”
Ultraviolence comes out June 17.
