Back in 2008 the Scottish arts collective and charity Transgressive North visited the Light of Love Children’s Home in Tuni, southeastern India, a place that housed some 600 young “untouchables.” Looking to record music and make a film with the children for a project called “Everything Is New” to help reverse the uphill battle faced by these forgetten youth, the organization has since reached out to a number of artists and invited them to create music sampling the voices of the Light Love Children’s Choir. On Jan. 20, two albums will be released as a result of this collaboration. The first BOATS, will feature exclusive tracks from Four Tet, Dan Deacon, Bear in Heaven, Califone, Deerhoof, El Guincho, Gang Gang Dance, and many others. The second is Sun Choir, an album of new music by Edinburgh-based band Marram, which was recorded with the Light Of Love Children’s Choir, and features a number of high-profile collaborations. Among the guests on Sun Choir is Jarvis Cocker, who lends his vocals to a number of songs, including “Falling From the Sun,” which has now been made available to stream online.
