Breaking up sucks, and as evident Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold’s new solo track “Olivia, In A Separate Bed,” it makes for some sad, sad music. As the title so openly implies, the relationship between Pecknold and his longtime girlfriend Olivia came to an end yesterday (Pecknold had tweeted about the break-up, only to delete them and post the song in its place). With nothing more than his echoey vocals and some acoustic strumming, and lyrics such as “I chose the love of strangers, I chose the fickle crowd,” it’s all pretty heartwrenching. Stream the demo below and just try not to feel upset for the guy.
