Listen: Ryn Weaver - “OctaHate”
Co-Written With Charli XCX, Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat
Jun 27, 2014 Ryn Weaver
Earlier this week a female artist by the name of Ryn Weaver seemingly jumped out of nowhere, delivering a surprise pop gem called “OctaHate.” Bolstering the track’s pedigree is the fact that it was co-written by Weaver with Charli XCX, Passion Pit‘s Michael Angelakos, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat, with Angelakos and Blanco also pulling production duty.
Thanks in part to tweets Angelakos, Charli, and fan Jessie Ware the song wound up landing up more than 100,000 plays in its first 24 hours on SoundCloud and quickly climbed Billboard’s Twitter chart.
While little is still known about Weaver, she did wind up posting on a Stereogum comment thread to provide a little background about herself: “Actually, i met benny at a party a year back and showed him my sound cloud… he had already been working with cashmere cat a bit… and he showed michael some of my music that I had produced and written on my own… and we all kinda just started to make some music. I’m signed to friends keep secrets… and indie. this is actually more of a passion project for them but it’s my vision. I know i’m not supposed to respond to internet trolls but i was bored. xx”

“While little is still unknown about Weaver…”???
Does anyone bother to read this stuff before they post it anymore? And why was it necessary to identify Weaver as a “female artist”? Why isn’t she just an artist?
Cool song, anyway.
