Small Black
Limits of Desire, the newest album from Brooklyn synth-pop ensemble Small Black, will soon see releaes on May 14 via Jagjaguwar. Following the record’s first single “Free At Dawn,” the band has shared another track from the effort titled “No Stranger,” which has been made available to stream below.
In addition to the new track the band has announced plans for an extensive North American tour in support of the record, which will kick off during the opening of the group’s recently announced art exhibit, featuring works by various artists that took inspiration the LP’s collected songs.
As if things couldn’t get any more interesting in their cross-promotion, Small Black have joined forces with Stillwater Artisanal to release an eponymous beer. According to brewer Brian Stillwater the new black saison was inspired by Limits of Desire‘s “Breathless.” “The tune instantly jumped out as a summer anthem and reminded me of my days as a electronic music producer & DJ,” he says. “Uplifting pads, soothing vocals, and a solid 4/4 kick give the song a powerful drive while still maintaining its beauty and elegance. In constructing the accompanying beverage I took a similar direction - a dark black beer that maintains the elegance of the song. I decided on a base of German malts and a debittered roasted barley to provide more dark color with very little actual roast flavor. German Hallertau hops are used to create a smooth bitterness and spicy, floral aroma. And while the beer is black, it’s extremely light bodied, fermented with Belgian yeast for a dry, slightly fruity, spicy finish at 5% ABV. Perfect for those late night summer parties.”
Those that purchase the beer will be given access to a QR code that will allow you to view a live video of “Breathless.”
