Thao Nguyen of Thao and the Get Down Stay Down has shared a brand new song, “Before You Vote,” that is a clear statement against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The song is part of the “30 Days, 30 Songs” anti-Donald Trump campaign put together by author/publisher Dave Eggers and Death Cab for Cutie manager Jordan Kurland. The project will feature one song a day until election day. It was launched with Death Cab for Cutie’s anti-Trump song “Million Dollar Loan,” and includes Jim James’ video for “Same Old Lie” and Franz Ferdinand’s anti-Trump song “Demagogue.” “Before You Vote” questions why anyone would vote for Trump and is accompanied by a lyric video that features the lyrics on top of a portrait of the Donald. Watch below, followed by the song’s lyrics. Thao and the Get Down Stay Down’s most recent album was Astonished Man, released earlier this year.

Nguyen had this to say about the song in a statement: “The verses are a kind of dazed appeal to those who might vote for him. I’m trying to understand why, because I think he is a monstrous sore of a liability. By the time I hit the choruses, I’ve worked myself into a frenzy considering his candidacy. I believe it is important to have an outlet for panic and irate disbelief. This song was written and recorded before the bus clips surprised no one. Please vote.”
