Listen: The Avalanches - “Colours” (Featuring Mercury Rev’s Jonathan Donahue)
Wildflower Due Out July 8

Wildflower, the long awaited follow-up to Since I Left You, the acclaimed 2001 debut album by Australia’s The Avalanches, is finally due out July 8 via Astralwerks/Modular/EMI/XL. Previously we were treated to the video for “Frank Sinatra,” a song featuring Danny Brown. Now the band has shared “Colours,” which features the vocals of Mercury Rev’s Jonathan Donahue. The Australian radio station Triple J reports that apparently the song doesn’t feature any samples, even though most of The Avalances’ music is based around samples. It’s definitely more chill than the manic “Frank Sinatra.” Listen below.
Wildflower also features Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux, Camp Lo, Biz Markie, and Warren Ellis of The Bad Seeds/Dirty Three. Wildflower is one of the most talked about delayed albums of the last 15 years and at various points it seemed like the album might be finally coming. The band even gave us an in-the-studio quote about it for our “Most Anticipated Albums of 2004” issue. Jens Lekman and Connan Mockasin also both recorded with the band over the years, but their contributions didn’t make the final mix.
