Listen: The Walkmen’s Walter Martin - “We Like the Zoo (‘Cause We’re Animals Too)”
Featuring The National's Matt Berninger

The Walkmen
On May 13 The Walkmen‘s Walter Martin will release his new solo album We’re All Young Together. Already sharing a collaborative track with Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O, Martin has premiered another duet track titled “We Like the Zoo (‘Cause We’re Animals Too).” Featuring help from The National’s Matt Berninger, the song has the kind of nursery rhyme feel that puts “Old McDonald” to shame. According to Martin, “We Like the Zoo (‘Cause We’re Animals Too)” is my tribute to the lost art of the novelty song. Songs like ‘Poison Ivy’ and ‘Yakety Yak’—all those Leiber and Stoller masterpieces—are a big part of my life. I didn’t want to put my name on an album that didn’t have room for that kind of song.”
