Listen: Tom Waits and Keith Richards - “Shenandoah”
A Pirate Ballad by Two Pirates
Jan 08, 2013
The Rolling Stones
Leave it to Johnny Depp to assemble an all-star line-up of musical artists for the purpose of putting together a compilation of sea shanties.
Executive produced by Depp and Gore Verbinski Son of Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys features original songs by the likes of Iggy Pop, Patti Smith and Johnny Depp, Michael Stipe and Courtney Love, Broken Social Scene, Beth Orton, Dr. John, Sean Lennon, and many others. Perhaps the biggest and most appropriate inclusions comes at the hands of Tom Waits and The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards with their song “Shenandoah.” In a statement by producer Hal Willner, “Each time I have managed to maneuver Waits and Richards into a studio over the last 25 years or so, it always results in one for the history books. With ‘Shenandoah’ they collaborate and there is no word in the English language to describe it … as good as music gets.”
Currently streaming over at NPR, you can click here to listen to unique collaboration. Down below you can find the full tracklist of the compilation. Son of Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys is out Feb. 19 on Anti-.
