Trip-hop pioneer Tricky is releasing a new album, ununiform, on September 22 via False Idols/!K7. He previously shared the album’s closing track, “When We Die,” which featured longtime collaborator Martina Topley-Bird, as well as a video for the song. He also shared “The Only Way,” announced some North American tour dates for this fall, and released a remix EP, Mixed By… Vol. 1. Now he has shared another song from the album, “Running Wild,” which features Mina Rose, a young singer from London who is in Tricky’s touring band. “Running Wild” is the most low key of the album’s three singles thus far, but still has that trademark Tricky atmosphere. Listen below, followed by his North American tour dates.
Ununiform is Tricky’s 13th album and was started in Moscow and finished in Berlin, where he’s lived for the last three years. A previous press release pointed out that he doesn’t live lavishly. “I don’t know anybody. I eat good food. I go for walks,” Tricky clarified in the press release. Topley-Bird was featured on Tricky’s 1995-released debut album, Maxinquaye, and the pair have a child together (although aren’t a couple), but they haven’t collaborated on one another’s music in almost 15 years. The album includes a cover of Hole’s 1994 song “Doll Parts.”
