Xiu Xiu are releasing The Music of Twin Peaks, a new album where they cover the soundtrack to the iconic 1990s TV show created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. The album is due out on Record Store Day, April 16, via Polyvinyl in the U.S. (and Bella Union in the U.K. and Europe). They’ve already shared their chill-inducing and epic-sounding cover of “Falling.” Now here’s their take on the Julee Cruise/Angelo Badalamenti Twin Peaks soundtrack song “Into the Night.” Listen below.

The project started when Australia’s Gallery of Modern Art commissioned Xiu Xiu last year to perform the music of Twin Peaks for their David Lynch: Between Two Worlds exhibition. Other Xiu Xiu Twin Peaks performances followed in Los Angeles, London, and elsewhere. Now they have gone into the studio and covered the entire Twin Peaks soundtrack with the help of producer by Jherek Bischoff. The album was mixed by Greg Saunier of label-mates Deerhoof. Xiu Xiu’s current press photo was shot by Joan Chen, an original Twin Peaks cast member.

Twin Peaks is returning to screens in 2017 with a brand new season on Showtime to be co-written and directed by Lynch and to feature much of the original cast.
