YACHT
Prince passed away at his home last Thursday and the Prince tributes and covers have been fittingly constant ever since. YACHT have shared a cover of Prince’s “Annie Christian” (originally found on his 1981 album Controversy). The Los Angeles electro-pop duo had initially recorded the cover during the sessions for their 2011 album Shangri-La, but had never completed or released it. Now they have putting the finishing touches on the cover and posted it to Soundcloud. Listen below.
The band included a statement with the Soundcloud post: “Reeling from the loss of Prince, we dug up an unfinished cover of ‘Annie Christian’ we started in 2011, while recording our DFA album Shangri-La, and finished it. ‘Annie Christian’ has always struck us as one of the weirdest Prince songs, a loose narrative of dark true stories from 1979-1981: John Lennon’s assassination, the Atlanta murders, and the FBI’s Abscam corruption sting. Prince was wounded by the evil in the world, and did a great deal both privately and publicly to bring the light.”
