Zola Jesus
On the heels of a world tour supporting her 2011 LP Conatus, Nika Danilova, a.k.a. Zola Jesus, was offered the opportunity to perform a special concert at New York’s Guggenheim Museum. Rather than committing to her standard electronic set, the Russian American musical artist decided to collaborate with classical composer JG Thirlwell to help her arrange her songs with a string quartet.
Following the success of the performance, Danilova entered the studio with the same set up to record the altered takes for a new album. The resulting LP, aptly titled Versions, is scheduled to be released on Aug. 20 via Sacred Bones. Down below you’ll find the tracklist, as well as a stream of a beautifully slow-downed reworking of “Avalanche.”
