Devotes An Hour to Favorite Love Songs

This morning LA radio station KCRW welcomed singer/songwriter M. Ward into the studio to host a special edition of its Morning Becomes Eclectic show, devoting an entire hour to some of his favorite love songs. For his Valentine’s Day playlist Ward included tracks by the likes of Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, and The Beach Boys, whose “simplicity is just so beautiful that it makes grown men weep.”
Acknowledging that a lot of his picks tend to come from older artists, Ward said, “I asked myself that when I was making the list. Where are all of the modern songs? I think it stems from the fact that ever since I was a kid I’ve been listening to older recordings. Stuff was recorded better. And that’s a huge part of it. The best sounding songs made the playlist. I have very particular things that I listen for in a song and there’s normally not much room for digital recording.”
