M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez and collaborators) recently held an open call audition for a new female keyboardist/singer to fill the spot vacated by Morgan Kibby, who left the lineup to more fully focus on her White Sea solo project. There was a form on the band’s website to submit video links of your singing and keyboard playing, if you met the requirements (have a valid passport, no criminal history that would impede international travel, be available between April and December, and be able to start rehearsals in Los Angeles in March). Now the band has announced that Kaela Sinclair has joined the band, beating out hundreds of applicants.

Sinclair is based in Dallas, TX. In 2013 she released her debut album Sun & Mirror. It featured collaborations with members of The Polyphonic Spree and Midlake. Sinclair has a new album to be released this spring. She will be joining M83 for their upcoming tour in support of JUNK, the band’s recently announced new album, which is due out April 8 via Mute. Below you can stream the album’s first single, “Do It, Try It,” again, as well as a video for Sinclair’s “Ghosts You’ve Won.”

Gonzalez announced the addition of Sinclair via Twitter. The tweets are also below, followed by one from Sinclair.

I love Kaela Sinclair, midway through recording her sophomore record at that point she put her own album on hold to play in front of thousands of folks a night at spots like Coachella, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Donate piano nyc, Governor’s Ball and Bonnaroo. And who wouldn’t have? One would also have to figure her rising stock, now as a player on the world stage, would ultimately benefit her come release time. Solid as she was before, she’s really found, or maybe just really affirmed her voice. With her big league experience and fast-growing fan base, she’s not just Denton’s next big thing anymore.
