M83 Announce An Open Call for a New Female Singer/Keyboardist
If You Have a Passport and No Criminal Record, You Could Join the Band

M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) announced back in December that he’d finished his new album and that it’s due out sometime in 2016. Now he’s put out an open call for a new female keyboardist/singer to fill the spot vacated by Morgan Kibby, who left the lineup to more fully focus on her White Sea solo project. On the band’s website here there’s a form to submit video links of your singing and keyboard playing, if you meet the requirements.
The requirements include:
“You must be able to join M83 rehearsals in Los Angeles in March.
You must be available to travel and work between April 2016 and December 2016.
You must own a valid passport for the next 2 years.
You must have no criminal history that may cause you to be denied entry to another country.”
This isn’t the first time M83 has done this. As Gonzalez points out on the submission page: “Back in 2011 I opened up the search for a musician to join the M83 tour. That turned out to be Jordan Lawlor who played with us all over the world and is still in the band!”
M83’s upcoming tour dates are below. Perhaps you could be joining them?
The new album is the follow-up to 2011’s fantastic Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. In an in-the-studio interview with Entertainment Weekly back in December Gonzalez called the new album “epic.” “It’s a very strong album with a lot of eclecticism,” Gonzalez told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s very epic. There’s a lot of different genres that are not supposed to live together but I tried to make them live together, which is quite challenging. It’s also quite different from the previous albums which is what I’m the most proud of.”
Gonzalez also said that the album was inspired by ‘70s and ‘80s television. “Shows like Punky Brewster and Who’s the Boss,” he said. “I feel like TV shows are starting to sound and look the same. There’s no more passion anymore. So this album is a tribute to those old-fashioned shows.”
