M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) has finished his new album and it’s due out in 2016. M83 collaborator Justin Meldal-Johnsen tweeted today: “A new M83 album is now finished. I’m very happy with it.” Then Entertainment Weekly ran a new in-the-studio interview with Gonzalez today where he discussed the “epic” new album, which is the follow-up to 2011’s fantastic Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.
“It’s a very strong album with a lot of eclecticism,” Gonzalez told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s very epic. There’s a lot of different genres that are not supposed to live together but I tried to make them live together, which is quite challenging. It’s also quite different from the previous albums which is what I’m the most proud of.”
Gonzalez also said that the album was inspired by ‘70s and ‘80s television. “Shows like Punky Brewster and Who’s the Boss,” he said. “I feel like TV shows are starting to sound and look the same. There’s no more passion anymore. So this album is a tribute to those old-fashioned shows.”
It was also revealed in the interview that Morgan Kibby, who sang vocals on the last two M83 albums, was not involved this time (instead she was focusing on her White Sea project), but that the album features “unexpected” guests.
The short article wraps with this quote from Gonzalez: “It’s more fun and fresh than my last album. But it’s good to take your listeners into a different maze, you know?

I enjoy seeing articles like this because it proves how much ambition artists have to succeed with their careers. I write articles about those who are already famous but do enjoy seeing the indie artists as well. Artists like Beyonce and Eninem were here at one point. It makes it exciting to know that one day M83 will also be just as famous. Setting up more concerts is the way to get the word out more and this is what it appears like in 2016
