Oakland’s Madeline Kenney has released the second single, “Scoop,” ahead of her new album Kiss From the Balcony, which is due out July 18 via Carpark. Check out the music video for “Scoop” below.
Kiss From the Balcony will be Kenney’s fifth full-length LP and her first since A New Reality Mind in 2023. About the new album, Kenney says in a press release: “I have done a lot of healing work in the last few years. I trust myself and the world a little more every day. I don’t feel the need to turn my songs into my diary. These songs feel more like miniature meditations on small moments.”
On “Scoop,” she says: “The original title was ‘Guitar Scoop Heart Flip’ because of the guitar melodies and lyrical themes; I was thinking a lot about what is expected of a ‘cool girl,’ how detachment is admired in modern relationships, and how the bathroom in a bar is a sacred space for girls (strangers!) to hold each other in their shared, odd, conditioned realities.”
The album’s first single, “All I Need,” was previously one of our Songs of the Week.
