The London-based group Man/Woman/Chainsaw continue to experiment with the release of “The Boss,” a powerful new single from their upcoming debut EP Eazy Peazy, set to land on November 8th via indie tastemaker label Fat Possum Records. Following the international support garnered by “Ode To Clio” and August’s “Grow A Tongue In Time,” “The Boss” showcases the band’s talent for combining cinematic arrangements with chaotic energy. Driven by a looping, propulsive violin and synth riff, the track embodies the dynamic tension that defines their sound.

Recorded with Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Echo Zoo studio in Eastbourne, the band aimed to make “The Boss” a statement on imbalanced power dynamics. “The Boss is the heaviest of the songs on the EP and definitely a live favourite of ours,” they said. “We wanted to express our frustration with imbalanced power dynamics in our everyday lives with a big supermassive rant of a rock song.”

Originally conceived as a more straightforward punk tune, the track evolved during the writing process when violinist Clio Starwood and keys/synth player Emmie-Mae Avery improvised an interlocking violin and synth line that transformed its direction. The band’s frontman Billy Ward, who also plays guitar, describes their process: “We thrive on the thin line between pretty and noisy, often trying to jump between the two - it’s that chaos that excites us.”

Working in the studio with Daniel Fox was a chance to push their sound further. “We particularly enjoyed recording the electric violin through guitar amps cranked to 10 while simultaneously manipulating a tape delay unit,” they shared.
