Marissa Nadler has announced a new album, For My Crimes, and shared its title track, which features backing vocals from Angel Olsen. For My Crimes is due out September 28 via Sacred Bones and Bella Union. Check out “For My Crimes” below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art, as well as her upcoming tour dates.
Nadler co-produced the album with Lawrence Rothman and Justin Raisen at Rothman’s Laurel Canyon studio, House of Lux. Along with Olsen, the album also features guest vocals from Sharon Van Etten and Kristin Kontrol. Plus Patty Schemel of Hole plays drums, Mary Lattimore contributes harp, and experimental multi-instrumentalist Janel Leppin is on strings. Nadler purposefully wanted strong female performers to guest on the album, with saxophonist Dana Colley (Morphine) the lone male player.
Nadler is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and a semi-retired art teacher (a press release points out that she has one student left, a 95-year-old named Doris). Still, For My Crimes is the first time one of her paintings has graced one of her album’s covers. She also has other paintings inspired by some of the album’s tracks and they will be included as prints in the limited edition version of For My Crimes (and some of the original paintings will also be for sale on Nadler’s website).
