Mark Kozelek Shares Rambling New 15-Minute Song About Recent Mass Shootings – “Where’s Gilroy”
Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White 2 Due Out March 6, 2020 via Kozelek’s Caldo Verde

Mark Kozelek
The always prolific Mark Kozelek has shared a 15-minute new song, “Where’s Gilroy,” that tackles the recent mass shootings in Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton. Like many of his songs of the last few years, it’s fairly rambling and stream of consciousness and mainly spoken word. It is the first single from Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White 2, a new album not due out until March 6, 2020. As its title suggests, it’s a collaboration with Ben Boye and Jim White and the sequel to their 2017 collaborative album Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White. Listen to “Where’s Gilroy” below (via Brooklyn Vegan, who premiered it).
Before Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White 2, Kozelek will be releasing another collaborative album, with Petra Haden, titled Joey Always Smiled. It is due out October 11 via Caldo Verde. Previously Kozelek shared its closing track, a cover of Huey Lewis and the News’ 1985 hit “The Power of Love,” from the soundtrack to the classic film Back to the Future (the cover was one of our Songs of the Week). Joey Always Smiled also features Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley, character actor Kevin Corrigan, and others. The album’s other six songs are originals.
