Matt Mondanile Leaves Real Estate to Focus on Ducktails, Band Announces New Tour Dates
Julian Lynch Replaces Mondanile
May 25, 2016 Ducktails
Real Estate have announced that Matt Mondanile has left the band to focus on his Ducktails project. Julian Lynch (also from the band’s home state of New Jersey and a well-regarded solo artist in his own right) will be replacing him and the band has announced their first tour dates with the new lineup. Ducktails’ fifth album, St. Catherine, came out last year via Domino and was hailed by some as Ducktails’ best, so this turn of events is not entirely surprising. A press release also promises that Real Estate’s next album, the follow-up to 2014’s widely acclaimed Atlas, is tentatively due out in early 2017 and that the band will begin recording it this summer.
The full press release statement regarding Mondanile’s departure reads as follows: “These upcoming shows will be the first with new member and fellow scion of Ridgewood, NJ, guitarist Julian Lynch. Lynch takes the place vacated by the departing Matt Mondanile, who is focusing on his own Ducktails project, a musical endeavor that predates his involvement in Real Estate.”
Real Estate’s Martin Courtney also released a solo album in 2015, Many Moons. Read our interview with Courtney about it. Also Courtney did a joint interview with actor Jason Schwartzman for our Best of 2014 issue and you can read that here. And finally, read our 2015 interview with Mondanile about Ducktails’ St. Catherine.
