Matt Smith Performs Doctor Who Theme with Orbital at Glastonbury
The Doctor Gets Down
Jun 28, 2010
Doctor Who
At the 2010 Glastonbury music festival this past weekend, Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith (who plays the time and space traveling hero The Doctor) made a surprise appearance alongside electronic dance music duo Orbital to help them perform the Doctor Who theme tune. Not only did the 27-year-old actor introduce the band’s cover, he also seemed to be part of the band, sporting the same light up glasses, and pushing some buttons and the like. We can’t imagine that William Hartnell, who was the first actor to play The Doctor back in 1963-1966 when he was in his mid-50s, got down with The Who and Bob Dylan at Isle of Wight festival in ‘69! But Smith was spotted at Coachella this year and the last actor to play The Doctor, David Tennant, likes good music, telling us in an interview last year about digging Florence and the Machine, Bat For Lashes, The Divine Comedy, and others.
Luckily Glastonbury is streamed on the Internet via professional cameras, so we have a real video, not a fan one. Check out Orbital and Matt Smith performing Doctor Who‘s theme below. And check out other videos from Glastonbury here.
