Gospel/soul artist Mavis Staples has announced the release of her newest studio effort, One True Vine. Scheduled for release on June 25 on Anti-, the new LP was produced by Wilco’s Tweedy, who had previously filled the role on Staples’ 2010 album You Are Not Alone. Recorded in Wilco’s Loft studio in Chicago, nearly every instrument on the album was played by Tweedy, with drums played by his 17-year-old son Spencer.
In addition to its original material One True Vine will feature several covers, including Funkadelic’s “Can You Get to That” and Low’s “Holy Ghost,” the latter of which appeared on the band’s most recent album The Invisible Way, also produced by Tweedy.
