Tired Pony
Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody has been busy gathering a new group of pals for new supergroup Tired Pony, including members of R.E.M. and Belle & Sebastian. While their debut album, The Place We Ran From (out July 12th), features contributions from She & Him and Editors’ Tom Smith it remains to me be seen if they can capture the attention of recent supergroups Monsters of Folk and Atoms For Peace.
As reported by BBC 6 music, Lightbody has teamed with R.E.M’s Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey, and Belle & Sebastian drummer Richard Colburn for a project which Lightbody describes as a “Twisted love letter to the States.” Lightbody continues, citing inspirations “Wilco, Calexico, Lambchop, Palace, Smog” as catalysts for the project. “I can’t get away with writing pure country music because I haven’t lived that life, but I love it so much that I always wanted to try my hand at it.”
