Mew Announces US Dates With Nine Inch Nails, Metropolitan Headlining Shows
How Many Clown Butterflies Can You Stuff Into One Tour Bus?
Jul 14, 2009 Mew
Last July, the Danish prog-pop trio Mew posted a strange Video Diary clip, entitled ‘Recording in Brooklyn.’ Like many of the clips on the band’s website, the video pairs band-shot footage with news reel-like audio. In this specific entry a voice discusses the The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which went online last September. Talk of the ominous LHC, string theory and bending temporal space and time is just the type of stuff Mew’s music evokes, and the comparison seems all the more appropriate after listening to their new time-warping LP several times over. No More Stories/Are Told Today/I’m Sorry/They Washed Away//No More Stories/The World Is Grey/I’m Tired/Let’s Wash Away earns its epic moniker several times over. Since 2005’s And the Glass-Handed Kites the Danish lads had plenty of time to tweak their recorded return (out August 25 on Columbia) Despite the departure of bassist Johan Wohlert, who went on to form The Storm with his girlfriend (and ex-Swan Lee member) Pernille Rosendahl, Mew forges on with their unique vision.
Now Jonas Bjerre, Bo Madsen and Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen are taking their dream weaving on the road with Nine Inch Nails. And if we’re reading Reznor’s Twitter account right he’s a diehard fan of the Copenhagen group (“Mew sound so good live it kind of pisses me off”). This tandem will give that NINJA tour a run for its money. The handful of NIN dates are in addition to other dates with ol’ Rez on their current European tour. The threesome will also play headlining dates in select U.S. metropolitan areas. Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle best prepare their brains for a 45-minute bliss-out.
