Morrissey is releasing California Son, a covers album, on May 24 via BMG. Now he has announced some new tour dates with Interpol opening. The dates go down this September and October and are listed below. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. local time (except for the Austin show, which goes on sale at 2 p.m. local time).
Previously Morrissey shared California Son‘s first single, a cover of Roy Orbison’s “It’s Over” that featured LP (aka Laura Pergolizzi). Then he shared a cover of “Morning Starship,” a 1973 song by Jobriath (aka Bruce Wayne Campbell), that featured Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear. Then he shared the album’s cover of “Wedding Bell Blues,” which was a 1969 hit for The 5th Dimension and was originally written by Laura Nyro. The track features Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, with backing vocals from Lydia Night of The Regrettes.
The album also features Broken Social Scene’s Ariel Engle, Petra Haden, and Young The Giant’s Sameer Gadhia.
Morrissey’s last album was 2017’s Low in High School. The album’s deluxe edition, which was released last December, included four previously unreleased tracks and five covers of songs by his favorite artists, including his cover of The Pretenders’ “Back on the Chain Gang.”

Interpol (Daniel Kessler, Paul Banks, and Sam Fogarino) are releasing a new EP, A Fine Mess, on May 17 via Matador. It includes near title track “Fine Mess,” which the band shared back in January and was one of our Songs of the Week. Then they shared a new song from it, “The Weekend.” Interpol also released a new album, Marauder, back in August 2018 via Matador.
