Morrissey Gives His Approval to Charlie Brown/Smiths Comic Strip Mash-Up
"Delighted and Flattered"
Oct 07, 2013
Morrissey
In case you weren’t aware there exists a Tumblr titled This Charming Charlie, a blog that devotes itself entirely to taking classic Peanuts comic strips, taking out the original dialogue, and replacing it with lyrics by The Smiths. While it seemed as though the site was destined to be short-lived when Universal Music Publishing Group requested that it be taken down, it now seems as though the label is no longer pursuing such action.
As the icing on the web-based cake, Morrissey himself took the True to You fansite recently to explain that not only was he not involved in the desist request, but that he’s actually a fan, revealing in a statement that he “is delighted and flattered by the Peanuts comic strip with its use of Morrissey-Smiths lyrics, and he hopes that the strips remain.”
Morriseey will be releasing his autobiography later this month in the UK and Europe on Oct. 17.
