
Neneh Cherry Announces First Solo Album in 16 Years

Neneh Cherry has announced plans to release her first solo album in 16 years. Produced by Four Tet, and featuring a guest appearance by Robyn, the as-of-yet-untitled record was made over a five-day period, recording and mixing two songs a day. “It was a liberating experience, not endlessly trying to fiddle with the music, re-recording hundreds of times,” says Cherry in a press release. “These days it’s easy to create any effect or sound on a computer; it is much harder to get the rawness I think we’ve achieved.”
The new solo LP will be Cherry’s first since the release of Man in 1996, and follows The Cherry Thing, a collaborative album with the Scandinavian free jazz collective The Thing, which featured new takes on songs by The Stooges, MF Doom, and others.
