New Star Trek TV Series in the Works for 2017
To Air on CBS All Access Streaming Series

Star Trek
Finally, a new Star Trek TV series is in the works. The iconic space franchise started in 1966 and has spawned four subsequent TV series and 12 movies, but has been off the air for a decade, since the series finale of the poorly received Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005. Since then Paramount has put its focus behind the rebooted Star Trek movies (a third one, Star Trek Beyond, is due out in summer 2016, which is Star Trek‘s 50th anniversary). A new Star Trek series will premiere in January 2017. It will not feature the characters/actors from the current Star Trek movies and will feature all new characters.
Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the first two rebooted Star Trek movies and co-created modern sci-fi TV classic Fringe, is executive producing the new series. Now here’s the bad news, while the first episode will air on CBS, after that the show will air exclusively on CBS All Access, CBS’ video on demand streaming service which requires a $5.99 monthly fee. It will be the service’s first original show. Let’s hope the show is good enough to warrant fans to pay for yet another streaming service. Certainly Star Trek belongs on TV as much as it does on the big screen and hopefully they can recreate the magic of the original series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, while also tying into the current film series.
