The London-based quartet Noah and the Whale have announced a string of new U.S. tour dates to happen in the wake of the band’s Coachella appearance on April 17th. The band cancelled some U.S. dates last fall in order to enter the studio to begin recording their second album, the follow up to 2008’s Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down. When Under the Radar‘s Frank Valish spoke to Noah’s singer/songwriter Charlie Fink late last year for our Anticipated Albums of 2009 section, he gave a hint of which direction the band might head with their sophomore long player. “Everything is different,” said Fink. “The lyrics are much more personal than before, but still feel pretty broad. It’s all one long love story really. The instrumentation is very new and we’re experimenting with how the instruments can be played, as well as using new instruments. We’ve been trying methods like prepared piano and prepared guitar. I’ve been listening to a lot of John Cage and Fred Frith and things like that.”
