Noted Director Bryan Singer Set to Direct Battlestar Galactica Feature
Singer to Re-Imagine the Original 1978 Series
Aug 14, 2009 Bryan Singer
The television series Battlestar Galactica has its roots in the 1970s, but its most recent incarnation only recently ended earlier this year. And with the franchise fresh on everyone’s mind, Bryan Singer—the respected director of the first two X-Men films and 2006’s Superman Returns—has been confirmed to direct and produce Universal Pictures’ feature version, according to HitFix (who broke the story) and Variety. However, the film will be more a re-imagining of the original 1970s series than a re-hash of the recent critically acclaimed Sci-Fi Channel (sorry Syfy Channel) series. Fans of that series may not be over the moon about a Battlestar Galactica big screen movie that doesn’t feature the show’s actors, let alone its characters. Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans certainly weren’t happy about the news that a new Buffy movie was in the works that wouldn’t feature the involvement of creater Joss Whedon, nor any of the stars of the TV show. It remains to be seen what Singer has up his sleeves, so hopefully there will be room for all three versions of Battlestar Galactica.
