NPR Offers First-Listen of New Bright Eyes
The People’s Key Out Feb. 15
Jan 31, 2011
Conor Oberst
The upcoming release of The People’s Key is a bittersweet one for those devoted followers of Conor Oberst, indie rock’s boy-genius who has been producing music under the moniker Bright Eyes since he was a wide-eyed 15-year-old in Nebraska. On one hand, it’s Bright Eyes latest effort since 2007’s folk-epic, Cassadaga. But on the other hand, rumors have it that this will be the last record for Bright Eyes. Although Oberst is not retiring from his music career just yet, it does signify the end of an angst-ridden era teeming with jaded, jilted, and forlorn love stories unraveling with the care and intimacy of a bedroom-tape session.
But before fans get too weepy over this, NPR is celebrating Bright Eyes’ forthcoming LP by streaming The People’s Key in its entirety. The People’s Key, which sees Oberst straying from his recent alt-country sensibility and returning to a more artful type of lo-fi rock, will stream on the NPR website until the record drops Feb. 15.
