OK Go may be known for their elaborate music videos, but they also haven’t shied away from making political statements and have taken part in most of Under the Radar‘s politically themed special Protest Issues. Now the band have covered Morrissey‘s 1989 single “Interesting Drug,” whose lyrics about there being “some bad people on the rise” are eerily fitting to the current political climate. And to hit this home even further, OK Go have shared a video to accompany their cover that features images of President-Elect Donald Trump, Vice President-Elect Mike Pence, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and others. Clearly this is all timed to Friday’s inauguration. Watch OK Go’s cover below, followed by the video for Morrissey’s original.
The YouTube page for the video includes this statement from OK Go: “We recorded a cover of Morrissey’s ‘Interesting Drug’ - it seems like the right soundtrack for this moment. No matter how anxious or angry you are, try to turn your passion into something good for the world. We’re in this together.”
