Okkervil River (the project of Will Sheff and backing band) have announced a new year-long subscription service, A Dream in the Dark, that features 12 live albums spanning the band’s existence. They have also announced some new summer tour dates. Check out a trailer for the series below, followed by artwork for it and the tour dates.

The band’s last album was 2018’s In the Rainbow Rain.

Sheff had this to say about A Dream in the Dark in a press release: “I’ve always had a little mania for archiving, and for years I’ve tried to record live shows in the best quality we could get and then set them aside. In 2018 we released our ninth album and the band entered its 20th year of existence. I found myself in a reflective mode, looking back on all the different time periods of the band and all the great collaborators I’ve been lucky enough to have filter though my life. I read back into the journals I’ve been keeping over the past decades and unearthed those recordings, and I saw the band’s past in a new light. I had a vision for how I could bring all of these things together to give fans a portrait of Okkervil River in live snapshots. It’s a way to sum up and curate the past, and then look forward to the next thing.”
