Os Mutantes Announce U.S. Tour Dates
Album Title Expanded To Haih or Amortecedor, Tracklist and Cover Art Revealed
Jul 23, 2009
Os Mutantes
As we reported last month, Os Mutantes, Brazil’s principal practicioners of all things Tropicália, have a new album coming out September 8th on Anti- Records. It’s their first new release in over 35 years! Now the seminal São Paulo trio of brothers Arnaldo Baptista and Sérgio Dias, and lead singer Rita Lee have announced a tour of North America. The late Kurt Cobain’s pleading wish for a reunited Mutantes crew has finally come to fruition.
It’s probably for the best that it happened now. Os Mutantes have always flitted between genres much, much easier than the grunge king. The veteran crew would have showed him up in a heartbeat. The genre bending unit’s tour of the States begins at L.A.‘s Echoplex and snakes north, east, and finally back west for the last date at Austin, Texas’ La Zona Rosa. How appropriate. Since our last Os Mutantes report, the band went and expanded the title of the new release to Haih or Amortecedor. There’s a tracklisting now (below) and that’s the crow-y album artwork up top. The full tour itinerary can be found after the tracklisting.
