Next year will mark the the 20th anniversary of Polyvinyl’s launch as a label. Responsible for distributing records from some of the most notable indie rock acts performing today including of Montreal, Japandroids, Mates of State, The Dodos, Loney Dear, Vivian Girls, and many others, Polyvinyl is commemorating the milestone with a year-long subscription-based single series called Polyvinyl 4-Track Singles Series.
Beginning in January the label will mail out a two-song 7’’ clear vinyl each month including “new tracks, cover songs, or even altered versions of older material” from its roster of artists. Putting a unique spin on the process, Polyvinyl explains that their idea was to “send a musician a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder and have them record two songs to tape before mailing it to the next musician to do the same ... Though the bands taking part are spread out across genres (and the globe), they are all tied together here for having recorded on the same device. When all was said and done, the 4-track had traveled over 20,000 miles!”
Limited to just 500 subscriptions, pre-orders are available through Polyvinyl’s website. Scroll down below to see the list of participating artists.
