Surfer Blood guitarist Thomas Fekete passed away almost exactly two years ago, on May 30, 2016. He had been battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Now Joyful Noise has announced that they are releasing a new album of his solo work, Grow, on June 8 and they have shared a single from it, “Moulding Over.” Listen to the song below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art.

Fekete released his debut solo album, Burner, in 2015 while he was undergoing treatment. He began work on Grow in January 2016, aided by his wife Jessica Fekete, but was unable to complete the album before his death. In late 2016 Jessica began work on finishing the album, using Thomas’ notes (which gave hints as to the title and tracklist) and computer files. Thomas was unable to record the album’s closing track, “When Death Comes Searching,” but Jessica was able to find a live recording of it. She took everything to their friend Daniel Good, who had mastered Burner, and together they finished the album in his Joshua Tree studio. Head over to Consequence of Sound to read an interview with Jessica Fekete about some of the influences Thomas was incorporating into the songs on Grow.
