We’re excited to premiere the song “Shine On,” taken from the upcoming soundtrack for the Netflix film Earthquake Bird. The song is by Atticus Ross and Claudia Sarne, and features vocals by Satomi Matsuzaki of indie legends Deerhoof. It will be available as an instant download on all preorders of the album beginning today. Earthquake Bird—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released digitally by Lakeshore Records on November 15th with a vinyl release coming down the pipeline.
Featuring lyrics in both English and Japanese, the haunting yet soothing melody paints a noir-ish picture over its near-six minute runtime:
Atticus Ross is a member of Nine Inch Nails, whose past film score work includes the Oscar-winning score for The Social Network (with Trent Reznor) and The Book of Eli (with brother Leopold Ross, who also features on the Earthquake Bird soundtrack). He frequently collaborates with Claudia Sarne, a musician and composer who has worked on such films and TV programs as Triple 9, End of Watch, and A Million Little Pieces. Matsuzaki’s latest record with Deerhoof is 2017’s Mountain Moves.
Set in late ‘80s Tokyo, Earthquake Bird follows a troubled expat (Alicia Vikander) in a relationship with a photographer (Naoki Kabayashi) who has troubles of his own, and what happens when an acquaintance (Riley Keough) suddenly goes missing and is presumed dead. The thriller was directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice) and will premiere on Netflix on November 15th, the same day the soundtrack is released digitally.
