Premiere: Birthh Mixtape (MENT Edition)
Feb 1-3 in Ljubljana, Slovenia
Jan 17, 2017
Birthh
Ahead of our first ever visit to both Slovenia and the MENT Festival we’ve been asking musicians playing the event to make us mixtapes. Today’s entry in that ongoing series comes from Italy’s own Birthh, who layered Chance the Rapper and Kanye West in with some truly classical cuts.
“Me and my band after rehearsal do this thing which pretty much consists in driving very slowly at night around a place in the countryside: very few people know about it so we are free to just relax and listen to literally any kind of music we feel like listening to at the moment,” she explains of her picks. “We call this part of the night ‘Safari.’ I’ve always been fascinated by the thought of having uncontaminated nature around me while being able to be moved by voices and different ways of conceiving music. I made this mixtape thinking about what the ideal sounds for this experience would be, playing with interferences, different musical eras and genres. This is definitely not a homogeneous piece of work, but hopefully it will make you want to go out and just enjoy the moon and everything that comes with it.”
Listen below. For more MENT related goodies, check out the previous mixes in our series from Haiku Garden and Stergin. Wanna party with us on the other side of the world? Check out all the fest info you might need here.
