Premiere: James - “Dear John” Video
Girl At the End of the World Out Now Via BMG
Jul 06, 2016 James
Beloved British veterans James released their new album, Girl At the End of the World, back in March via BMG and now we’re happy to premiere the wondrous new video for “Dear John.” Péter Vácz directed the clip that blends stop-motion with 2D and 3D animation. It features two lovers in a mystical forest and favorably brings to mind the work of filmmaker Henry Selick, who directed the stop-motion masterworks The Nightmare Before Christmas (written and produced by Tim Burton) and Coraline (based on the Neil Gaiman novel). Watch it below.
Tim Booth had this to say about the song: “Inspired by the age of long term relationships being finished by a text. A Dear John letter was a letter a soldier received at the front from their loved one saying she’d finished with him. James have written songs that get played at weddings and funerals. Now we have made one for your divorce!”
James recently played the special first set at this year’s Glastonbury, officially opening the festival cutting a ribbon with festival founder/runner Michael Eavis and then playing the opening set of the festival. Readers in the U.K. can watch for full set over at the BBC. The band will also be performing at “World Cup ‘66 Minute by Minute,” a tribute event for England’s World Cup win against Germany in 1966. The July 30th event is at the SSE Arena, Wembley and is supported by the BBC and the Football Association. More info can be found here.
