Premiere: Moonbabies: “Chorus”/“Raindrops”
First New Music From Swedish Duo in Seven Years
Sep 04, 2014
Moonbabies
Sweden’s Moonbabies has been making sweet indie-pop music since the late ‘90s. Its 2004 album, The Orange Billboard, still stands as one of the best albums the genre may have ever seen. But the duo of married couple Ola Frick and Carina Johansson Frick hasn’t released any music since 2007’s The Moonbabies at the Ballroom. Well, the void is about to be filled, as Moonbabies is back with “Chorus”/“Raindrops,” a double single released digitally on Sweden’s Startracks record label.
Both songs display the Fricks’ inimitable sense of melody and both stand with Moonbabies’ best work. Of the rhythmically-pulsing “Chorus,” Ola says, “Whenever I do music, I know I’m onto something good if I start to see it in colors. ‘Chorus’ (originally named ‘Colour’) happened so fast and was exploding with color when I wrote it.” Carina adds regarding the haunting, delicate “Raindrops”: “It came from a feverish dream, one that felt so incredibly intense and real. About death and love basically. A bigger than life beauty and some dark unknown feeling that makes me feel slightly afraid.”
No album is planned at the moment, but take solace that Moonbabies are back writing and recording. Listen to both new singles below.
