Next week, Under the Radar is headed to the Sled Island Festival. In honor of their performance at the fest, and all things Canada, Winnipeg-based six-piece Royal Canoe made us a mixtape that they’re calling Royal Canoe’s Winnipeg Winter Survival Kit.
“We tried to create a mix where the titles of the songs would loosely tell the story of life in Winnipeg during the winter months,” explains bandmember Bucky Driedger of their tape. “No consideration was given to the flow or consistency of the music in the mix, which makes for an emotional roller coaster ride that seems fitting. There are four distinct sections: Autumn, Winter, Dead of Winter, and Spring. Yeah, there are two winter sections. There’s a lot of winter.”
Listen to the mix below. You can also revisit the previous mixes in our Sled Island series from Chelsea Wolfe, Blitzen Trapper, and Each Other. For those headed to Calgary, Sled Island’s schedule and lineup details lives here.
