mixtapes
Normally, our mixtape project is heavy on bands with an electronic bent. It’s not that we don’t like guitars (we do), it’s just that our favorite electronic/pop musicians seem to be most excited about taking their turn behind the (digital) decks. Thankfully, we’re changing that up with today’s contribution from She Keeps Bees. The Brooklyn duo’s sound owes more to more bluesy rock stompers than ethereal electronics—and their mixtape follows suit.
Says the band of their picks:
This is a mix made from the somewhat limited amount of digital music we have with us on tour at the moment. It’s a lot of stuff from one our favorite music blogs, Holy Warbles. It was recently shut down, but the mixes they made were amazing. If you happen to run across anything they’ve done re-posted by another blog, grab it up! There’s an Abner Jay track we heard through Chances With Wolves, a ridiculously great DJ collective who have a show on East Village Radio every Monday from 4-6pm.
The Link Wray song is off a mix made by Lux and Ivy from The Cramps. They have a series of mixes they used to play before their shows which is excellent…a lot of old rock and roll gems. Enjoy!
