Premiere: Tellef Raabe – “Dear Aphrodite”
Single Out Today on Riot Factory
Mar 12, 2015 Tellef Raabe
Despite the title, Tellef Raabe’s new single “Dear Aphrodite” isn’t exactly a romantic anthem. Instead the wistful, 1980s-leaning tune takes a much more somber line, warning against emotionally hollow sex. (“Dear Aphrodite, touching you just takes the time pass,” Raabe sings in a voice that will resonate with fans of both Jens Lekman and Joy Division.) It’s a dark song with a bouncy pop underbelly—because let’s face it, that’s the best way to absorb sadness.
“Casual sex is now a part of my generation’s weekends,” Raabe notes of the track. “I’d rather turn to Dylan Thomas for answers.”
Listen to our premiere (along with the track’s stripped down b-side “Bedroom Lights”) below. The track is out now on Riot Factory. A debut album will follow later this year.
