This week’s entry in our Le Guess Who? mixtape series comes from Chicago producer Tree. Here’s what he had to say about his mix:

“The Soul Trap Mix is a compilation of records that I’ve been involved in over the last few years that really define my signature sound, Soul Trap. For those who don’t know, Soul Trap is the category that all my music fits into. It’s reality rap – soul music – a combination of the beats I create, sampling songs and pairing them with southern drums, trap kicks, 808s, hi–hats, etc., and then adding my voice, delivery and context – the experiences that I’ve been through, my childhood, my teenage years, the world as I see it today. Everything I touch comes from my soul. This mix showcases a small sampling my different projects and the evolution of Soul Trap. The variety of artists that I have worked with and produced for is significant and it’s only getting larger by the day. I’m getting ready for my first European run at the end of the month (Netherlands, Brussels, Paris & London) bringing Soul Trap to Europe, and couldn’t be more excited. Everyone can relate to the music that I make and all I want is for it to reach as many people as possible and continue cultivating the movement. - #SoulTrap”
